DANIER Design Challenge winner announced December 21, 2009
You, the Canadian public, will get to cast your vote for the very first DANIER Design Challenge winner during each stage. Our panel of expert judges will have their say after each stage as well. Cast your vote online now.
Three winners will be announced on December 21, 2009. The winners will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000 for 1st place, $3,000 for 2nd place, and $2,000 for 3rd place.
The winning garment will be part of Danier’s fall 2010 collection.

In order to qualify for the DANIER Design Challenge you must be a 3rd year Ryerson School of Fashion student (enrolled in FFD 513) in the 2009/10 academic year.
Ryerson will introduce the contest to its third year students. All 70 students will be invited to tour the DANIER design and manufacturing facilities and attend a “How to Work with Leather” seminar given by DANIER’s Chief Merchandising Officer, Olga Koel.
Students will be asked to submit a design sketch at this stage for judging. Due September 29, 2009.
Students will be required to make a 2 minute video presentation of their sketch which will be posted on Danier’s website.
The public will be able to comment on the designs and vote on their favourites.
Judges will be able to share their thoughts on the design online.
25 students will be selected to go on to Stage 2 on October 5, 2009.
25 students will be asked to make a muslin sample of their design and present it on video taken during their five-minute interview. Due October 16, 2009.
The public will be able to comment on the designs and vote on their favourites.
Judges will be able to share their thoughts on the design online.
15 students will be selected to move on to Stage 3 on October 26, 2009.
Students will be working with leather at this stage and will complete a finished garment and present it in a 2 minute video. Due December 14, 2009.
The winner of the DANIER Design Challenge will be announced Dec. 21, 2009.
